Several of Schneider's vocal works are settings of Classical Latin poetry and use the natural rhythm and meter of the language as points of departure. Other works are directly inspired by visual images, places, or events.

Schneider has performed extensively as a singer, conductor, and pianist. He has also taught composition, music theory, and related subjects for more than four years at Indiana University and works freelance as a music copyist. Schneider currently lives in Cincinnati, Ohio, where teaches composition at the College-Conservatory of Music.
